Schools are incredibly busy places and it can be overwhelming at times to keep up with society's expectations of what we should be providing for students. At the beginning of 2016, our staff thought long and hard about what our main focus should be - what is our job. We realised that essentially we're gardeners - except we are growing people! And if we are going to be growing people, we want them to be good people. So "Growing Good People" is a kaupapa and guiding phrase that helps direct our decision making and it is the phrase we use when communicating, engaging and guiding our students. We utilise a number of different programmes to help us in this endeavour.
Growing good people (like growing anything) takes time and it takes effort. Our students do not come to us, or we to them, in perfect packages. There is a lot of learning and growing that needs to happen collaboratively for us to truly be an effective learning community and for our students to be learning within their zone of proximal development.
